Fontshare vs onlyfonts
Fontshare offers ~100 exceptional free fonts from the Indian Type Foundry — some of the best free type available. The trade-off is the license: ITF's Fontshare Free License restricts redistribution and modification, so the fonts are tied to their service. Every font on onlyfonts is open-source licensed (OFL/Apache): you can self-host, modify, embed, and redistribute.

pick Fontshare if
- you want a specific ITF face (Satoshi, General Sans, Clash Display…) and their license terms work for you
- design quality of a curated small catalog matters more than license freedom
pick onlyfonts if
- you need license freedom: self-hosting, modification, bundling with software, redistribution
- you need breadth — 2,600+ families across scripts and categories
- you want search, identification, and pairing tools
questions
Why isn't Satoshi (or other Fontshare fonts) on onlyfonts?
The Fontshare Free License prohibits redistribution, so ITF fonts can't legally be served from a third-party CDN. The onlyfonts catalog only includes fonts whose licenses permit redistribution.
What are good open-source alternatives to popular Fontshare fonts?
Use the search — describe the look you're after ("geometric grotesque like Satoshi") or upload a specimen screenshot, and you'll get the closest open-source matches ranked by visual similarity.
